The Wide-Awake Princess by E.D. Baker

Princess Annie is the only one in her kingdom unaffected by magic.  Her older sister, Princess Gwendolyn, is cursed at birth to fall into a deep sleep on her sixteenth birthday when she pricks her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel.  So, when the entire kingdom falls into a slumber on Princess Gwen’s 16^th birthday, it is left up to Annie to find her sister’s ‘true love’ and bring him to the castle to break the spell.

This a wonderful version of Sleeping Beauty and a very fast read.  Annie is a character you can’t help but to root for and love.  In her travels she meets some interesting princes and characters.  I found the story to have perfect plot twists; Annie gets herself in to some pretty hysterical situations.  I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a good love story with a strong female protagonist.
